June 27, 2016 - After suffering the loss of his son just one year ago, I Just found out this morning I lost a friend, a classmate and fellow musician. Allan Lutes passed away from cancer on June 25th in Livingston, Montana.
Allan and I met in 1959 when he transferred to Red Bank High School from Kentucky and I transferred from Hixson. We were both in the high school band and shared a common interest along with other friends and band members, Ted Ledford and Buddy Spann, started a Rock and Roll combo in November of 1959.
Allan played bass tuba in the marching band, and upright bass in the high school swing band. He played electric bass in our group.
Later, Allan went on to play bass with the Chattanooga Symphony for many years.
He joined the Chattanooga Police Department rising to the rank of Captain before retiring. He was a pilot, a marksman and an instructor.
Moving to Montana in 1997, he worked as a part time deputy sheriff then ran and served two terms as the Park County Sheriff, retiring last year.

We played all around Chattanooga, YM/YW Youth Center, Tennis Courts in Red Bank as well as many functions at UC.  In the spring of 1961, we signed a record deal.  The first was recorded in Memphis that spring and the second one in Oklahoma City that fall. Both were pretty popular in Chattanooga and the first received national attention, being picked up by MGM Records.
